Illegal immigrant jailed for attempted rape gets £27,000 compensation

The Kurd, who had no official ID papers, spent two years in prison before he was allowed out on licence but was locked up again to prevent him from disappearing.

Because the authorities could not prove his nationality they were not able to send him to his native country.

Deputy High Court Judge Mr Justice Mott acknowledged that the sex offender had a history of absconding, but ruled that he had been unlawfully detained for 11 months prior to his release last December.

It is not known whether the woman he tried to rape, who cannot be named for legal reasons, received any damages. But under Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority rules, she would only have been entitled to around £7,500.

Rape Victims Shamed by the U.S. Court System

I was going to write a post about this today. However, I came across this from Overcoming Narcissistic Abuse. No wonder most victims do not report the crime.

A Florida county judge berated a domestic violence victim for failing to appear at her alleged abuser’s trial and then sentenced the sobbing woman to jail, courtroom video shows.

Seminole County Judge Jerri Collins was captured heartlessly rebuking the pleading woman as she desperately apologizes and says her depression and anxiety kept her from facing her abuser in court.

“You think you’re going to have anxiety now? You haven’t even seen anxiety,” Collins says before issuing her decision.

The victim had to appear before the judge on July 30 for contempt of court hearing, WFTV-9 reported.

She had ignored a subpoena to testify against the father of her child who allegedly choked her and threatened her with a kitchen knife, the local news station said.
